West Nordic Culture House
The West Nordic Culture House is in an old forge. The opening of the
West Nordic Culture House in Hafnarfjordur marks another major contribution
to a better understanding and appreciation of rich Viking history, heritage,
art and traditions. It is a valuable addition to the wide range of museums,
historic sites and other cultural attractions in the town of Hafnarfjordur.
The West Nordic Culture House has a museum store and it serves the purpose
of enhancing the cultural co-operation between the West Nordic countries,
the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland. It displays and showcases
collections of Viking and Inuit art, paintings, drawings, carvings and
crafts made today in the traditions of the Viking Age. The culture house
offers various operations, i.e. the exhibition and selling of various
kinds of handicraft and stalls introducing each country and its people.
It also has a special guest apartment at its disposal, to be used by
artists working at their art, as well as exhibiting, selling and introducing
their country in the handicraft-house.
