SR Mjol

The Company, SR-mjöl hf
SR-mjöl specialises in the production and marketing of fish meals and oils. The company was originally founded in 1930 by the Icelandic State and was called Sildarverksmidjur Rikisins. The State established SR-mjöl hf on this strong foundation and privatized the company on 1st, February 1994. Shortly afterwards it was registered on the Icelandic Stock Exchange. The Company owns and manages 5 factories situated strategically around the Icelandic coast at Siglufjörður, Raufarhöfn, Seyðisfjörður, Reyðafjörður and Helguvík. In addition to its own production, the Company also sells the production for other fishmeal plants.

The Products
SR-mjöl plants have a total capacity of 4.400 tonnes of raw material per day. If based on the average yields, this is equivalent to a production of 770 tonnes of fish meal and 570 tonnes of fish oil per day. The actual quantity of raw material processed by our plants during the past 5 years, is in the range 3 – 400,000 tonnes per annum.
SR-mjöl hf is the largest exporter of fishmeal and oil from Iceland. During recent years the Company has exported 100 – 110,000 tonnes of fishmeal and approximately 50,000 tonnes of fish oil per annum. Our production is used primarily in feed for aquaculture, for poultry feeds and pet foods. The principal markets for our production are in Europe and North America.

Quality and traceability
Our plants are all under the supervision of the Icelandic State Inspectorate of Fisheries, and they all operate a HACCP quality assurance programme. Traceability of our products is a priority, so that fishmeal and fish oil lots can always be traced back to the waters where the fish was caught.

Sustainability
The fish stocks which are primarily utilised for meal and oil production are capelin (Mallotus villosus) and herring (Clupea harengus). Both of these stocks are managed by governmental bodies to ensure their sustainability.
