The story of the house
In 1928 Hólmjárn J. Hólmjárn started the ale and soda manu-facturing company Ţór hf. He built a great brewery at Rauđárstígur in 1930, and now the Redriver steak-house has been set up in the main building.
During the war years strong beer was brewed for the occupution forces in this building. In 1967 Egils brewery moved it’s hole operations to Rauđarárstígur and until 1985 operated the largest brewery in the country here. After that the brewery moved it’s operation to Grjótháls.
