VEGETATION MAP

The Vegetation map of Iceland shows the predominant vegetation groups in simplified terms. In area with more-or less unbroken vegetation cover, the predominant form of vegetation is shown. In regions where vegetation covers half or less of the area, the type of land is indicated. The map is based on vegetation maps, satellite pictures and a map showing birch woods and scrub.

This map won the first prize at an international GIS congress as the best made maps of the year 1998.
