Hotel FLOKI is situtated on Flókagata in the middle of Reykjavík where the streets are named after the settlers of the country and the main persons in the Icelandic Sagas. The Floki Vilgerdarson sagaFloki Vilgerdarson was one of the first men to visit Iceland. He and his crew arrived in early summer and set up quarters on the northern side of Breiðafjörður. The summer was very good and they did not attend to laying in foodstocks and feedstocks for the coming winter. That winter happened to be very hard and they lost all their livestock. In the spring they climbed the mountains to the north of their camp, and saw fjords full of packice. Therefore they called the country Iceland. As modern means of navigation were not available to Flóki and other travellers of that time, Flóki took along three ravens, which he had hallowed to the gods before setting out. The first raven her released flew over the stern of the boat and diasppeared the way they had travelled. The second raven circled the boat and then returned to the boat. The third raven flew in a straight line past the bow of the boat - and Flóki followed and discovered Iceland. Just for the record Floki returned to Iceland as a settler later in life, and settled in Flokadalur.
