| Áslaug's Guesthouse The guesthouse “Gistiheimili Áslaugar” has been open since 1989 and is the oldest guesthouse in Ísafjörður. Guesthouse Áslaug is located in a building built in 1942 by Áslaug’s grandfather, the ship builder Marsellíus Bernharðsson. At Áslaug's guesthouse there are single-, double- and family rooms, with wash basin and radio alarm. The WC and shower are located in the corridor. There are also self-cateing facilities and a TV and telephone. Made up beds or sleeping-bag accommodation, breakfast upon request. The Factors House In 1993 the owner of the guesthouse bought the Factor’s House in Hæstakaupstaður, just next door to the guesthouse itself. The Factor’s House was built by a group of Norwegians in 1788 after the abolition of the trading monopoly in Iceland.They built eight houses in Ísafjörður and the Factor’s House is the only one still standing. In 1975 it became a protected building. In December 2001 the owners opened a restaurant and a cafeteria in The Factors House after a major renovation both on the inside and the outside. The Factors House is on two floors and beautifully decorated. The main diningroom is on groundfloor but on the upper floor is a nice dining room that fits perfectly f. ex. for a small company meetings. Special reservations can be made by e-mail. Old photographs on display. 44 photographs are on display in the guesthouse. The name of the display is Life after working hours and tells a story of everyday life in the past. The photographs were shot in the years 1900 - 1940. and Arny Herbertsdottir has worked with the photos and created a line of different colours.
