Apotek bar grill

Restaurant Apotek - Fusion cusine

Apotek Bar Grill, down town Reykjavik, Iceland, is one of the newest restaurants in town. The building at Austurstræti 16 formerly housed the pharmacy Reykjavíkurapótek, which lent the restaurant its name. From the beginning, it has been the ambition of Apótek’s owner, Guðvarður Gíslason and his wife Guðlaug Halldórsdóttir, to create a restaurant that will not only reflect the newest and best developments in international cuisine, but also provide professional service and beautiful and functional design that will please both the eye and palate of their guests.

The premises have been completely renovated after being redesigned, from the smallest detail, by Guðlaug Halldórsdóttir. Master chef Sigurður Ólafsson was hired to supervise the restaurant’s kitchen, where cooking is characterized by the “fusion style,” which combines Western and Oriental cuisine in a pleasing and exciting way.

In the front of the building, there is a café that serves a selection of appetizers, including tapas and sushi. Soup, pasta and other light dishes can also be ordered, the menu reflecting a convergence of various international influences.

The restaurant is entered through the café, and the first thing guests see is the beautifully designed shelves that display the restaurant’s wine selection and then the kitchen behind a glass wall, through which guests can see their food being prepared.

The restaurant’s menu and wine menu (the menu is actually called a “prescription”) are long and varied. In addition, there is always a special list of temporary offers or new dishes, and groups can order from a special menu.

Restaurant Apótek, Reykjavik, is unique not only for its cuisine and design. Careful attention is paid to every aspect of the restaurant’s philosophy. Apótek does not serve not tap water, for example, even though Iceland has the purest water in the world. Special purification equipment was purchased, along with a device to seal the water it produces in bottles specially marked with the restaurant’s name, so that guests can be sure of getting not only the best water in the world, but the very best.
